Diluent

A diluent is a substance used to dilute or dissolve another material, such as a drug or an active ingredient. In pharmacology and biotechnology, a diluent is often used to adjust a concentrated drug to a concentration suitable for the body or to facilitate its administration.

A diluent is particularly important in the preparation of injectable or intravenously administered drugs that need to be converted from a powdered form (e.g., a lyophilisate) into a liquid form. In such cases, the diluent is used to dissolve the powder, enabling the medication to be injected or administered.
